Dr. Poage is extensively trained in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, evaluation and managment of musculoskeletal disorders. He has a passion to see patients restored back to their “pre-injury” state, whether that refers to an acute activity-related injury, or dealing with the pain and dysfunction that accompanies a chronic disease like arthritis. Being an Osteopathic physician, Dr. Poage believes in the principles of Osteopathy, including that the structure of the body is closely related to its function, and that the body has the innate, God-given ability to heal itself. At Comeback Orthopedics, the goal is to tailor treatments towards helping each patient heal their body back to a healthy, pain-free state.

Dr. Poage attended medical school here in Lewisburg at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. From there he completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. He then completed a fellowship with world-renowned sports surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Gulf Breeze, FL, where he had the opportunity to care for world-class athletes while learning from the best in the business. His training and experience has made him well equipped to provide care to the people of his state.

Dr. Poage is a native of Greenbrier County, born and raised here. As a local, he understands the unique needs that our patient population has, and is not unaware of the struggles that plague our state. Having battled addiction himself and come out on the other side into recovery, he understands the vital role that mental health and self-care play in our overall well-being. He is also empathetic to people who have struggled, and is passionate about seeing others take the journey into recovery towards a happy, healthy life.

We at Comeback Orthopedics believe in a patient-centered philosophy of healthcare. Rather than the traditional insurance-based model, in which clinics must be very high volume to account for the high overhead associated with such a setup, our approach is a cash-based model with upfront pricing for services. This allows us to keep the practice overhead low by cutting out the middle man, thereby keeping prices as low as possible and making it possible to spend more time giving high quality care.

In short, we want to put the focus back where it belongs-on the patient-rather than on all of the aspects of healthcare that detract from that goal. We currently do not network with any insurance payer, including Medicare or Medicaid. If you have private insurance, we are happy to provide you with a superbill that can be submitted for reimbursement. The goal is to provide high quality, efficient care that leaves each patient feeling like they are the priority.
